Boxing Alberta will be hosting the Canadian Boxing Championship from March 28th – April 1st in Edmonton. Four Goldenstars will be competing in the tournament and proudly representing Southpaw Boxing: Petru, Bobbi-Jo, Feysal and Abdi.
Now his second time at Nationals, Petru has previously won the Canadian Olympic qualifier, fought at the Continental Olympic qualifier and participated at several international tournaments; he twice won the Golden Gloves tournament, twice won Provincials, won the Western Canadian Championship and is the Ringside World Champion. Petru’s first foray at Nationals earned him a silver medal, but this year he is gunning for nothing but gold.
This year also marks Bobbi-Jo’s third time competing at Nationals. She’s bringing a handful of experience and determination to turn things around and come out on top with the win, proving she is ready for the next level. Make no mistake though — a veteran of the sport, Bobbi-Jo’s accolades are far reaching. She has won Bronze, Silver and Golden Gloves tournaments, has won Provincials, competed at the Olympic qualifier and is also the Ringside World Champion.
Also returning a veteran, this will mark Abdi’s second Nationals. Though fairly new to the sport, his recent rise has been meteoric. A Golden Gloves Champion and a two-time Provincial Champion, he is ready to make the leap to the big leagues and strives for first place at Nationals, cementing him as a top prospect.
We will see Feysal compete in his first Nationals this year due to injuries sidelining the promising talent. Though on paper a newcomer to Nationals, he is by no means new to the sport. He is a Bronze, Silver and Golden Gloves Champion and the newly crowned champ of this years Provincials. He looks to make his appearance at Nationals noticed and undeniably shoot for the number one spot.
